The opening hole at MVGC is a short par 5 featuring a rolling fairway that slopes from left to right almost all the way from tee to green. With a well-placed tee shot, this green is reachable in two by even an average player, offering a great shot at a birdie or even an eagle. The blue tees are nestled into a cove at the entrance to the golf course and offer a blind shot up and over a small hill to reach the sloping fairway. The white tees are situated on the first hilltop in front of the blue tees and offer an unobstructed view of the entire fairway. The left side of the fairway offers the best approach to this wide-open green, as it is the only part of the fairway that offers level footing for your second shot. Tee shots landing in the center of the fairway will usually roll down the hill and possibly into the rough. Shots that are going left-to-right when they hit this fairway will likely roll through the rough and out-of-bounds, so be careful. As shown in the picture above, the large green is protected only by a pair of small sand traps at the left and right front edges of the green and should not be a factor. Be careful not to go long or right on your approach shot or you could end up out-of-bounds.
